Irish Senior & Subordinated Debt

At the beginning of March 2011, the Irish Central Bank released the levels of senior and subordinated debt within Irish financial institutions, on a once-off basis. Within these figures are €35.5bn of unguaranteed bonds (€19.1bn of which are secured against bank assets), and €6.9bn of subordinated bonds - whose holders are generally paid higher return in exchange for a greater risk of not being repaid. The Central Bank have stated that these figures were correct as of February 18th 2011.

It is unclear as to why these figures have been released (possibly a political move), or how honest our bankers have been with us in this instance, because their history is not great in that sense, but a major question emerges with these figures; how much help would we require from the ECB/IMF if we did not pay off these private debts for others?
